Did you know that California is home to the highest number of Asian American eligible voters in the country, nearly a third of the entire US Asian electorate? The electorate share of AAPIs in California currently stands at 17.34 %. And yet the AAPI community is the most underrepresented in office, making up only 0.9% of elected officials in the US.

Here in Placer County, we are 8.4% of the total population. From April 2020 to July 2023, the county’s Asian population grew by around 8,300 or roughly 25%. In other words, we are here and will continue to grow our presence and impact in this community.

Increased visibility in politics helps challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about the AAPI community, fostering greater understanding and acceptance. Representation ensures that issues affecting AAPI communities – such as the economy, healthcare access, education and immigration – are prioritized and addressed. We provide legislative updates so you can find out what’s happening in the current California legislature that impacts the AAPI community. Go to the AAPI Legislative Update section on our website: AAPI Legislative Update — AAPI Placer County for the latest.

As we head into this election season, now more than ever, being an informed community member and voter is critical. Increased voter turnout among AAPI individuals will lead to greater political influence. Voting is a vital tool to advocate for our rights and strengthen our collective voice.
